Yao Xiao

Yao Xiao is born in Mainland China in 1990.Following her passion for art and for exploration, Yao came to the United States alone at the age of 16. She has found herself creating artworks in Chicago, Seattle, Memphis—and now, New York City. Yao is currently studying at the School of Visual Art in NYC, majoring in illustration.

Yao has won awards from the Kennedy center for Scenic Art and have been published in the U.S. and in China. Her recent publications include books for Roland Music Co. and theTranmetropolitan Art Book. Her art is featured on Dr. Sketchy’s blog and also, Warren Ellis’s website. Other places her art has appeared in include the Licton Springs Review and Carpe Diem Review.

Education

Guilford High School '07 North Seattle Community College '09-Associates of Arts Memphis College of Art '11 -Illustration School of Visual Arts '13 -Illustration Biography Yao Xiao grew up in Tianjin, China. There she started learning painting at a young age of four. In the year 2006 she came to the United States as an exchange student. She was placed in a high school in Illinois. She took art classes there, and the experience changed her life. Yao strengthened her skills day by day, while enjoying the freedom to make the kind of art she likes. Yao made up her mind to seek a career in art and put her whole life into it. Now she earned her Associate of Arts degree at North Seattle Community College and she is pursuing a BFA in illustration at the School of Visul Arts in New York City."
